Thailand has an wide-ranging and high quality telephone system spanning throughout the country. Telephone services now reaches the principal towns, with 5.6 millions main telephone lines in use in 2000, of which over 70% were in metropolitan areas.

service you can use: Telephone Organization of Thailand (TOT, a state-owned company limited) and True Corporation operate the majority of the telephone system in the Bangkok metropolitan region while TOT Public Company Limited and TT&T Public Company Limited operate the telephone network in other provinces. While mobile operation is mainly done by Hutch, DTAC, AIS, True Move.

There is direct dialing to and from more than 80 countries on 5 continents. International phone calls can be made quite easily from mid-to-upper-level hotels or maybe you can go to the General Post Office (GPO) or any major post office, where there are special booths for making out of the country calls.

To place an international call, you can buy a prepaid card (like Lenso Phonecard)

MOBILE PHONES :

The kingdom of Thailand has three GSM mobile service providers: AIS, DTAC and Truemove. International charge from a Thai carrier is good, for example, DTAC charges 10 baht/minute to call United States. Coverage is very good in almost all around the country, including resort islands

Almost all Thais have a cellular phone (especially in urban areas). During latest years, there are more or less five times as many mobile cellular phones than landlines in use; over half of the Thai residents owns a mobile cellular telephone.
