Taxis in Bangkok

Taxis
Taxi service in Bangkok is very competent and opportunely accessible; it is surely one of the best ways to explore the city. Finding a taxi is not irritating, especially around hotels, shopping malls and other tourist attractions.
Taxis are cheap by international standards and most are air-conditioned. All taxis have a red and white Taxi-Meter sign on the roof, yellow license plates.

A red lit sign on the front window means that the taxi is available. Taxis come in different colors, though the green-yellow and red-blue are the most common.
Taxis are required to employ their meter, but some drivers will attempt to bargain a rate, bargaining for a good price is not too difficult. Typing of taxi drivers is not really a Thai practice, although a small tip is often appreciated. In addition make sure you have enough small bills otherwise expect problems with change as some taxi drivers don’t have.
Communication can be a problem, although most drivers will identify the names of tourist hot spots, if possible have the name and location of your destination written in Thai and have a map with both Thai and English. As neither the BTS Skytrain nor the Metro penetrate the Rattanakosin Area, where many of the main attractions are, so a taxi is the best option.
