Wat Benchamabophit
It is a Buddhist temple built in 1899 by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), it was designed by prince Naris. Also known as the marble temple because of the Italian Carrara marble of which is constructed, it is one of Bangkok’s most modern and beautiful temples and a major tourist attraction. This is an excellent place to watch religious festivals and processions.
The Ubosoth Hall is the imposing structure that exemplifies the finest works of architectural art of the period. In the gallery surrounding the ordination hall are 52 bronze Buddha images; representing different styles from various Buddhist countries and regions; collected by Prince Damrong Rajanubhab for his king. The temple houses the Buddha statue; Phra Buddhajinaraja considered one of the most beautiful images in Thailand, The ashes of King Chulalongkorn are buried beneath the statue.
Wat Benchamapophit is located on Sri Ayutthaya Road, near the King official residence. The best time to visit the temple is early in the morning when the monks are chanting; the temple is open daily from 8:00 to 17:00.
