The museum contains a large collection of antiquities on display, which has been passed down through successive generations. Meaning Cabbage Patch Palace as the land was originally used for farming; it is the first museum in Thailand where the owner, Chumbhotpong Paripatra, Prince of Nakhon Sawan, decided to convert their private residence.

The Suan Pakkad museum was built in the traditional Thai style and opened in 1952. It is one of the best examples of traditional domestic architecture in the city and is conveniently located on Sri Ayutthaya Road south of the Victory Monument.

The museum features a group of 4 traditional Thai houses with covered hallways between them, the building surround a garden designed with a Japanese feel. One of the most impressive attractions of the museum is its Bang-Chiang pottery, weapons and jewelry collection which is over 4000 years old.

Other interesting attractions are Khmer sculptures, antiquities such as perfume bottles, nielloware, a superb Buddha head from Ayutthaya, Thai and Chinese ceramics; a special air-conditioned building contains a collection of Khon masks. Additionally, the museum contains an interesting collection of musical instruments belonging to the Prince Paribatra.

The Lacquer Pavilion, which stands in the main garden, was a birthday present from the prince to the princess and is over 450 years old. The interior of the inner room is entirely decorated in gold and black lacquer.
