Arrival to Pattaya and Information


Pattaya has no commercial airport of its own; however access by air is very straightforward. Pattaya can be reached easily from the following airports:

Suvarnabhumi Airport (tel. 02 132 1888): The successor to Don Muang, is located only 110km from Pattaya (40km closer than Don Muang), transfer time is around 80 Ė 90 minutes and the fare is inexpensive.

Don Muang Airport: Currently handles Nok Air, One-Two-GO, PB Air and most Thai Airways domestic flights.

U-Tapao Airport (tel. +66-38245295): Sometimes described as "Pattaya Airport", is located at Sattahip, 30km south of Pattaya. Itís the closest airport to Pattaya. Currently there are no commercial flights that connect U-Tapao with Suvarnabhumi Airport or Don Muang airport; though, there are daily flights connecting Koh Samui on Bangkok Airways. The best way to transport between U-Tapao and Pattaya is by minibus, driving time is about 30 minutes


Bus is the most common way to reach Pattaya. From Bangkok, there are two bus terminals, the Eastern bus terminal (Tel. 3919829), commonly called Ekkamai and the Northern Bus Terminal, called Moh Chit 2, located on Kamphaeng Phet Road (Tel 9363509) both have departures every 30 minutes. Driving time is around 2-3 hours, depending on traffic. From Suvarnabhumi Airport there is a bus service offered by Thai Airways.


Visitors can hire a car and drive to Pattaya, itís recommended to rent from a reputable company such as Avis or Budget. You will need a international driver license, bring a copy of your passport, wear seat belts and stay alert (Thailand has a high rate of road accidents). From Bangkok, transfer time takes around 2 Ė 3 hours, depending on the traffic


Hiring your own taxi is a good way to travel between the airport and Pattaya, itís recommended to use licensed taxis and decide the fare before departing. There are also luxurious taxis, such as limousines.


Travel by train is the most economical way to reach Pattaya from Bangkok, few visitors are aware that Pattaya have a railway, but in fact, the city has two train stations: Pattaya Train Station (tel. +66-38429285) located near to the Siam Country Club and the Pattaya Tai Train Station located near the Sukhumvit / Thepprasit Road intersection.

From Bangkok, a train leaves the Hua Lamphong Station (tel. +66 2 223-7010 / 223-7020) every day at 6:55am, the journey to Pattaya takes about 4-5 hours.
