Practicalities in Nong Khai



There are many banks and ATMs around Nong Khai, especially on Prajak Road and on Meechai Road. The only mode of public transport in the city is by tuk-tuk, a great way to explore Nong Khai is by bicycle, several rental places and guesthouses offer bicycles for rent.

GET IN NONG KHAI BY AIR

The nearest airport in Thai side is in Udon Thani. Thai Airways and Air Asia operate flights between the Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok) and Udon Thani, Nok Air operates a service between Don Muang Airport in Bangkok and Udon Thani

There are direct shuttle buses four times a day between the airport and the Friendship Bridge, some 50 kilometers from Udon Thani

GET IN NONG KHAI BY BUS

There are many buses departing from Northern Bus Terminal in Bangkok, the driving time is around 9 hours, the trip is made on Highway N 1 passing Saraburi which connects Highway N 2 to Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, and Udon Thani, on to Nong Khai. The distance is around 616 kilometers.

The bus station in Nong Khai is located off Prajak Road; there are departures to Bangkok, Udon Thani and more. Across the border direct from Vientiane, transfer time takes around 2 hours via the Friendship Bridge. From Chiang Mai, visitors can take some buses via Phitsanulok and Kohn Kaen / Udon Thani by bus.

The Transport Company Limited (tel. +66 (29) 362 841 to 48, +66 (29) 362 852 to 66) operates regular bus services both by ordinary bus and air-conditioned buses

GET IN NONG KHAI BY TRAIN

The Royal State Railway of Thailand operates daily train service, trains depart from Hua Lamphong and Bang Sue Railway Stations and trip takes 10-12 hours. The train station in Nong Khai has been moved near the border due to the prospect plan of the new railway to Vientiane, Laos; 3 kilometers west of the center of town and 500 meters from the international shuttle bus station
